Looking for graphic artist

Postby Madroms » Mon Feb 27, 2012 7:27 pm

We are looking for graphic artist(s) that can design some icons, logos, banners,... for the site and that know how to code on php (for the banners as it must be dynamic banners).
Some people already helped me for the banner, really thanks for them, but I never add time to finish and test my part (the php code).

I will not be really available in the next weeks/months, so this is not something that must be done quickly.

The banners part is a project that could be really interesting for the users of satakore (more to tell about it later), and could lead to a contest.

Let me know if you could help us on this.

I may add:
I see that some of you put their stats on their signature. What if it could be better than only static, not update-able automatically, text ? :D
Help needed to improve this part ;)

Dynamic how? Are you looking for the link to count the number of times it has been hit or are you looking for something that will change every time you hit the refresh button? Have I missed what you're looking for altogether?

something that have a background and (lot of) text on it with specific font and some little images.
Multiple backgrounds must be available.
Text is specific to each user and is updated everytime the collection of this user changes. About the same for the little images.
Text has variable length depending on what the user want to put on the banner.

Just to be clear, we are making a signature for the people on the forums that is able to read a 'MySQL database' and retrieve their information on their game collation. Then change their signature (text, icon, background) based on their collection stats?

Yes, approximately this. The sig is generated on the site and cached there (no need to regenerate it everytime it is called).

something like this (test made just for proof of concept, all must reworked):

Yeah I think I can do that. I am able to capture the data and display it. I will have to do some research on saving it as a JPG file, but it doesn't sound too hard.

My big problems are:
- to find appropriate font that displays well with any background
- to find appropriate placeholders for every possible texts + pictures (games with 7 diff countries + GRAND TOTAL and demos with 3 diff countries + GRAND TOTAL).
- to mix all of this in beautiful picture(s)

For the php code, getting data from mysql tables and making images with GD library is not really a problem. imagepng is the function to save as png file for example.

Thanks for the help you will be able to provide ;)

In my experiance it is not so much the font as it is the color. The color you had shown, white with a black out line, tends to work the best at showing on ANY background.

I had an idea of using US games to make a bar graph that represents the US collection. This would basically look like 10 or so SAT boxes sitting on a shelf. Use the same idea for EU and JP games. My question is would it be acceptable to combine the less common games into one group; eg. Brazil, China, etc. The reasoni ask is because the less groups there are the cleaner it looks.

I have a few ideas. I will make up some moch ups when I get home.

I just read up on the GD library. Definitly nothing complicated need to read up on the commands.
