Kaitei Daisensou JPN (In The Hunt)

Postby Madroms » Sat Oct 15, 2011 10:57 am

You probably know there are 2 revisions for this game. The 2nd one works in every saturn I tested it on, but I didn't succeed in lauching the 1st revision.
Some say it works if you have no controller plugged when the game boots, others say it only works on very first model of Saturn.

So here is my test benchmark (pads used = standard control pads):

Test 01a: game inserted in the console, lid closed, console powered on, 1 pad plugged in port 1, no button pushed during the bios boot screen
Test 02a: game inserted in the console, lid closed, console powered on, 1 pad plugged in port 1, 1 button pushed during the bios boot screen to speed up the animation
Test 03a: Same as test 01a, with pad plugged in port 2
Test 04a: Same as test 02a, with pad plugged in port 2
Test 05a: Same as test 01a, with 2 pads plugged
Test 06a: Same as test 02a, with 2 pads plugged

Test 01b: Same as test 01a but with lid opened, console powered on, 1 pad plugged in port 1, bios going to its player screen, lid closed, button pushed to launch the game
Test 02b: Same as test 02a but with lid opened, console powered on, 1 pad plugged in port 1, bios going to its player screen, lid closed, button pushed to launch the game
Test 03b: N/A
Test 04b: N/A
Test 05b: Same as test 05a but with lid opened, console powered on, 2 pads plugged, bios going to its player screen, lid closed, button pushed to launch the game
Test 06b: Same as test 06a but with lid opened, console powered on, 2 pads plugged, bios going to its player screen, lid closed, button pushed to launch the game

Test 01c: Same as test 01a but without any pad plugged, then after the bios licence screen, waiting some seconds and plugging in 1 pad in port 1 and pushing some buttons
Test 02c: Same as test 01c but plugging in 1 pad in port 2 and pushing some buttons
Test 03c: Same as test 01c but plugging in 2 pads and pushing some buttons

Test 01d: Same as test 01b, just after pushing the button to launch the game, pad unplugged, then waiting some seconds and plugging in 1 pad in port 1 and pushing some buttons
Test 02d: Same as test 01d but plugging in 1 pad in port 2 and pushing some buttons
Test 03d: Same as test 01d but plugging in 2 pads and pushing some buttons

Here is my results:
- JPN Sega Saturn HST-3200 with Bios 1.00 (saturn from 1994): none of the tests works
- JPN Sega Saturn HST-3200 with Bios 1.01 (saturn from 1995): none of the tests works
- JPN Sega Saturn HST-3220 with Bios 1.01 (saturn from 1996): none of the tests works
- JPN Victor V-Saturn RG-JX1 with Bios 1.01 (saturn from 1995): none of the tests works

So, for those who have this game, let us know your tests and results. We need to know if the 1st revision of the game work in a few Saturn or definitely none.

Strange for a game to not work at all. I'll buy some CDRs and test it on my modded saturn later.

edit: how exactly is this supposed to hang? During the intro FMV, or title screen, or right after SEGA text, etc.

It hangs just after the Sega licence screen. You hear the laser read something quickly then nothing else, no more read and the screen stays black.

I have done the tests on these Saturns:

Japan HST-3200 (bios 1.00)
Japan HST-3210 (bios 1.01)
Japan HST-3220 (bios 1.01)
Asia MK-80217-07 (bios 1.01)
USA (with region switch installed) MK-80000 (bios 1.00a)

The game doesn't boot on any of them. Like you said, it hangs after the Sega license screen and I can hear the disc spin, but nothing on screen.

I also tested it with a boot disc => same results :(

Btw, this game has been released on decembre 1995 the 15th.
And according to the internal date in the header of the revised version, it has been made on january 1996 the 11th.
So about 1 month after the initial release. In 1 month, the game must have been launched multiple times by the users, else the revised version may have been released more quicker. This is what I think, but I didn't check some of the magazines from this period so maybe we can find any information in them about this problem.

I just remembered to check this.

I've tried running the game on my modded machine with an AR, and it didn't boot either - hangs up after the Sega screen. This is pretty crazy, they released a game that didn't even run on the console. I really wonder about the reactions of those who bought this game.

I just got another copy of this game and it works! It seems to boot every time, both from the console completely off and from Saturn's main menu. The cd's serial number is exactly the same as the disc that doesn't boot (T-15006GP-00554-P1K).

What's strange is that the disc that boots has a lot more scratches than the disc that doesn't boot.

I think I'll stick to the Japanese PS1 version for actually playing. There's sooo much slowdown on the Saturn disc.

Mine copy is a T-15006GP-00554A-P1K, bought new and sealed from Play Asia about two years ago.
It works fine on my Saturn (asian MK 80217-07 already listed).
But tell me: how could one discriminate between the two revisions of the game?

Check the disc with SRP and look at the version number. 1.004 = older version, 1.006 = newer version.

That's pretty strange...

I checked both discs in SRPv3 and they are both version 1.004

The disc that boots up works on my gray Saturn (HST-3210). It does not boot on my white Saturn (HST-3220).

The other disc doesn't boot on any Saturn at all.
