Deep Fear
MK81804-50
Deep Fear is an Adventure game, developed by HighwayStar Co., Ltd. / Sega AM7 (Amusement R&D Dept.#7) [Overworks] / Sega Enterprises, Ltd. / ISCO Inc. and published by Sega Enterprises, Ltd., which was released in Europe in 1998 for the Sega Saturn.
I almost filled my pants when I found out there was a playable English version of this game, and then I really did fill them when I discovered that the English version had what could considered to be the worst voice acting ever done in a game to date.
Does it ruin the game? It comes ever so close. I'd almost rather play the Japanese version with a faq than have to endure this crap, but there is some serious gaming to be had if you can withstand the totally horrific voicework.
Deep Fear is your underwater Resident Evil affair with creatures instead of zombies, which are very well done. The action is great, the levels are great and most importantly there's an element of fear, which is good since the title is DEEP FEAR.
Gameplay is the same as R.E. where you run around solving puzzles and killing stuff. I think the real highlight has to be the game's soundtrack which suits this game perfectly. Scary fx galore set the mood nicely. You'll also need to get used to the controls which are somewhat choppy at first. The FMV sequences are great, the in-game graphics are somewhat BLEH which is something a lot of Saturn 3D titles suffer from. There are also some questionable camera angles throughout.
Survival horror fans will probably endure this one, but the casual new gamer with no oldschool background will run screaming.
